New Books for the New Year

If you are looking for some contemplative time after the holidays, our library has some new books that look at faith and prayer from a fresh perspective.

Two of them – Bible Women and Women of the Bible – provide an opportunity to get more deeply acquainted with the remarkable women of the Bible and their diverse stories of faith.

Three others focus on religious art, exploring how beautiful representations of the Bible and the Gospels can open us to a deeper faith experience. The Illuminated Book of Psalms and The Illuminated Life of Christ both bring words and images together explicitly through linking text with paintings and illuminated manuscripts. The combinations are as powerful today as they were in to those who viewed them in past centuries. Art and Prayer: The Beauty of Turning to God, written by a theologian/art historian/priest examines more explicitly how images can work as tools that teach us how to draw closer to God.
