Lent Mission Project – Care Kits for Homeless Neighbors

Lent Mission Project – Care Kits for Homeless Neighbors

Empty gallon-size storage bags containing a list of basic items and instructions will be handed out at the end of worship today and next Sunday. Please return the bag to the church by Sunday, March 4, filled with some or all of the listed toiletries and snacks. In  addition, the Synod Youth are collecting sturdy backpacks to help with distribution. In your filled Care Kit, consider adding a favorite Bible verse and/or prayer for the recipient. This is a great project for all ages and enables us to serve a neighbor in need.

Please fill this zip lock bag with items from this list and return it to Reformation no later than Sunday, March 4. Travel size items work best. It is not necessary to include every item from the list.

  • ChapStick
  • Wipes
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrush
  • Hand sanitizers
  • Socks
  • Sanitary napkins
  • Lotion
  • Granola bars or crackers
  • Razor

ŸPlease also consider writing your favorite scripture verse in a card or a note expressing your love for the recipient. Feel free to add a gift card from places like McDonald’s if you desire.

You may also consider donating a sturdy backpack (along the lines of the average JanSport) which will be helpful as the kits are distributed.

The kits will be distributed to people living in homelessness in Philadelphia.

Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?   -Luke 25: 37-38
