If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it. – 1 Corinthians 12:26
Our Welcome Statement at Reformation was revised in 2019 to include a deeper commitment to inclusion and justice around race, gender, sexual orientation, and ability. This year, we have formed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) taskforce comprised of myself, Grace Brooks, Carolyn Hathaway, Del Lighton, Jen Troutman, Becca Trusky, and Daniel Trusky in order to more intentionally live out these commitments.
This summer, Reformation’s Council approved a three-year grant from our Endowment for renewed DEI initiatives at Reformation. Our team is working to plan ways to engage the congregation in education, action, and service related to DEI topics over the next three years.
We live in an imperfect world that begs each of us to continually strive for more justice, more kindness, and more humility. As we carry out DEI work, we know that we will never reach the end of our growth and that there is always more work to be done. As opportunities to learn, act, and serve are announced this year and beyond, we invite you to consider growing with us in justice-focused work that loves and serves our neighbors, honoring our unique identities and our commitments to the marginalized. Be on the lookout for the first opportunities coming this Fall and this Advent!
In Peace,
Pastor Eileen (she/her)
