Dear Reformation,
“I would hurl words into this darkness and wait for an echo, and if an echo sounded, no matter how faintly, I would send other words to tell, to march, to fight, to create a sense of the hunger for life that gnaws in us all.” – Richard Wright
As we prepare to enter into the season of Lent, we turn our attention to the ways in which our world needs the breath of God. Our Lent book, This Here Flesh, is written by Cole Arthur Riley. Riley is also the creator of the Black Liturgies project on social media, and her first book of the same name. Her work includes breath prayers, poems, and meditations to strengthen us for the work we are called to do as children of God in a weary world. We share in one of Riley’s breath prayers together:
INHALE: Lord, transform my hungers.
EXHALE: Let my desires be for justice.
In Peace,
Pastor Eileen (she/her)
