GIFT OF HOPE

GIFT OF HOPE

Many of us already have enough “stuff”. This Christmas give a meaningful “Gift of Hope” to relatives and friends as an “alternative” or in addition to traditional gifts. It is a quick three step process:

1. You pick a charity from our list.

2. You pick the person to whom you will honor with this gift.

3. You get the tax deduction. (You make your check out to “Reformation Lutheran Church”)  We give you a Christmas card designed especially for Gifts of Hope and an insert describing the gift which you hand or mail to the lucky person for whom you bought the gift.

Our list of 2013 Beneficiaries:

Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) – Established in 1902, LSH is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to serving vulnerable children, adults, and families.

Appalachia Service Project  (ASP)-  ASP’s vision is that substandard housing in Central Appalachia will be eradicated and that everyone who comes into contact with this ministry will be transformed. We believe that each person is a child of God imbued with dignity and worth.

Mosquito net – $10/each. A bed net treated with long-lasting insecticide, coupled with training and education on how it is used, helps ensure that families in Africa are protected from this life-threatening disease as they sleep.

Month of food for child orphaned by AIDS – $21/month. Nutritious food is an important part of caring for children in Africa who have lost their parents to AIDS, many of whom are HIV-positive themselves. Foods high in protein & vitamins help 2 keep kids strong and their tummies full. Supported through ELCA Good Gifts.

Ten little chicks make a big difference for $10! When they are just months old, these chicks begin laying eggs, which make nutritious, protein-rich meals for families who are hungry. The many extra eggs are often enough to allow a family to start a small business by selling them for additional income.
