When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
– Matthew 2:10-11
January is the season when we celebrate the Epiphany, God in Christ being revealed to the world through the magi’s visit. The entire Epiphany scene is a marvelous – ridiculous, even – one: travelers from afar following only the guidance of a star to a strange land, in order to pay homage to an infant who will terrify tyrants and in whom the world will place its hope. The Epiphany story reminds us that it is important for us to witness to God showing up in unexpected places, and to go tell it to others. Like the magi at Epiphany, like the women at the empty tomb, like so many of God’s people before us. We’re called to pass it on, so others can have little epiphanies in their own faith, too. May your Epiphany be full of sharing the Good News of God that knows no end.
In Peace,
Pastor Eileen (she/her)
